In response to recent concerns that rural communities were suffering substantial decline, appears the "Querença Project" - An initiative that encourages the reintroduction and growth of native plants suited to the local environment, encouraging sustainable organic cultivation and traditional local trades.

The tour includes a visit to Fonte da Benémola which is a protected nature reserve, and a pleasant stroll around the local market selecting seasonal fruit and aromatic plants before learning how to make a tasty liqueur or jam.
