In the centre of Bangkok, there is a hidden community of Thai silk weavers called Ban Krua Nua, which dates back to the 18th century. The community gained attention when Jim Thompson first took an interest in Thai silk and asked the Thai silk weavers to produce a sample, which he took to New York. After this, Thai silk became famous: from ‘Vogue’ magazine to a catwalk essential.

During the trip to the Ban Krua Nua community, guests will visit the last two original workshops, Phamai Baan Krua and Aood Aood Bankrua. Observe silk weavers in every step of silk cloth production, from the dyeing of threads to weaving the cloth by hand on old wood looms. At Uncle Eve’s home, experience the traditional loom which used to produce Thai silk to be sent to Jim Thompson, whilst at Uncle Ood’s home, learn how to produce Thai silk in a traditional way at this little cosy silk museum.

The trip continues to the famous Jim Thompson Museum. Listen to the story of Jim Thompson, the founder of this traditional Thai house, as well as the famous person who helped revitalise the Thai silk industry.
