Being the largest and most well-preserved royal park in China, the Summer Palace has greatly influenced Chinese horticulture and landscape design with its famous natural views and cultural interests, which also has been entitled 'The Museum of Royal Gardens'. It is 15 kilometers away from central Beijing but only 30 minute drive from the Kempinski Hotel Beijing.
The Great Wall is one of the “Seven Wonders of the World” and is listed in the World Heritage Directory. Several sections of the wall date back to 206 BC and were built by the first Emperor of China. Like a gigantic dragon, it winds up and down the mountains, across deserts and grasslands and is said to be the only man-made structure that can be seen from the moon.
The magnificent Forbidden City is the largest and the best preserved imperial palace complex in the world. For more than five centuries, this palace functioned as the administrative center for the whole country as well as the place residence for the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties. In Chinese, the number “9” has the same pronunciation as the word “forever” and so the Forbidden City has 9,999 rooms surrounded by walls 10 meters high and a moat 6 meters deep.
The Temple of Heaven:
Built specially for making offerings to heaven for the following harvest years, the Temple of Heaven was the largest group of structures in China during Ming and Qing dynasties. There are two amazingly acoustical spots in the temple: one is on the top of the tri-leveled round altar where your words reverberate around you and the other one is at the Echo Wall that partially encloses a circular courtyard 65 meters in diameter.
As the largest city square in China and the fourth largest in the world, it serves not as only the symbol of Beijing but also of China. The square is surrounded by several of significant edifices including the Great Hall of the People and the Mao Mausoleum. Attend the daily flag ceremonies on the square at sunrise and sunset time for a unique cultural experience.
These tombs represent the most extensive burial complex for 13 of the 16 Ming Dynasty emperors and one of the finest preserved sites of 15th century Chinese art and architecture. It is 45 kilometers away from the Kempinski Hotel Beijing and will take you approximately a 50 minute by car to visit these mysterious royal tombs.
