THE OVERVIEW/THE QUICK-TAKE
The flagship of luxury European hotel brand Corinthia, the ever opulent and plenty chic Corinthia London is located in a meticulously restored Belle Epoque, building built circa 1885, on Whitehall Place at the corner of Northumberland Avenue.
THE LOCATION
Set in a building that was requisitioned by the Ministry of Defence for much of the last century, Corinthia London is a stone’s throw from Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, South Bank, and the Houses of Parliament. The River Thames and Charing Cross railway station are short walks away.
THE LOOK AND FEEL
Grand doesn’t quite do the Corinthia London justice. After all, the property boasts a surplus of opulent flourishes, from the Baccarat chandeliers (the spectacular “Full Moon” caps the lobby) and original artwork in public spaces to the spacious rooms, with their dreamy Hypnos beds and marble clad bathrooms boasting in-wall TVs. But the property goes beyond the typical pomp and circumstance with innovative amenities designed to please beyond surface level looks. The property is home to the flagship from much-acclaimed spa brand Espa, and guests can book check-ups with a wide variety of holistic experts in addition to cossetting treatments. Food and drink options are impressive – at the Northall, embrace British produce and classic cuisine; while, Massimo serves up Italian. And at the Bassoon bar, friendly bar tenders, well-executed cocktails, and the live jazz entertainment do justice to the space’s David Collins-designed interiors.
THE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
From Coexists with Function
From the Baccarat chandeliers to the original art all around, Corinthia London is one of London’s prettiest place to stay. But, it’s also one of the city’s most comfortable. The beige-swathed rooms are among the most spacious to be found around. And they feature inviting touches, like the sublimely comfortable Hypnos mattresses and bathrooms with separate showers and soaking tubs.
Holistic Haven
Spread over four floors and dressed up in fresh whites and sleek black marble, the hotel’s ESPA Life is the archetype for what a modern hotel spa should be. The army of wellness practitioners includes naturopaths, traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncturists and herbalists, osteopaths, and personal trainers, in addition to expert massage therapists and skin gurus.
Eating Aplenty
Corinthia London’s roster of restaurants is impressive to say the least. And each elevates hotel dining to art. Enjoy British classics at The Northall and Kerridge's Bar & Grill. Afternoon tea is an elaborate affair at The Crystal Moon Lounge. Take breakfast and a light lunch at the David Collins-designed Garden Lounge. And for a nightcap, there are three stunning bars to choose from, including the spectacular Bassoon.
Families Always Welcome
Corinthia London is one of the city’s true family-friendly hotels. To wit, children are given a welcome treat of chocolates and fresh squeezed juices at check-in. Children also receive a cuddly toy from the Battersea Cats & Dogs Home collection and a souvenir guidebook for kids. In rooms, kid’s enjoy child-sized bathrobes and slippers, kid-friendly bathroom amenities, game consoles and games, and children’s DVD’s, books, and board games. The hotel will provide parents with infant items, such as strollers, cribs, high chairs, baby monitors, and the like. And restaurants have child-appropriate menus. Resident children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult and can only access the pool within the dedicated daily hours of: 10 - 11:30am and 3 - 4:30pm
THE INSIDER’S TAKE
The views from the Corinthia’s rooms truly are the best to be found in any London hotel, and it’s worth splurging for a room with a view, as London’s legendary skyline will unfold right before your eyes. Wake-up to panoramas of St Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben and, London’s famed bridges. Those in River Suites can go to sleep with the London Eye sparkling in the distance.
